Ants don’t want to go near caramel, why? February 29, 2008
Posted by jewel in Misc, Recipe. add a commentCouple of days ago, I made Ting Ting. It’s a traditional Indonesian candy made from caramel and peanuts. Here’s the recipe of Ting Ting:
Ingredients:
- 125 gr peanuts
- 250 gr sugar
- 125 ml water
Instruction:
- Pour sugar & water in a saucepan, boil, don’t mix it with spoon, just let it be. Wait until it turn golden yellow. Remove from the stove.
- While it’s still hot, pour in the peanuts, mix it thoroughly.
- Pour into a flat pan, spread with a spoon so the layer is only 0.5 cm.
- Leave it until it harden itself.
- To eat it, you can break the layer by using a fork.
Back to my topic, when my Ting Ting is done, I left some if it lying on the table for a long time. Surprisingly, there’s not even one ant approaching my Ting Ting. It made me wondering why. Considering that caramel is made of sugar, and ants love sugar, why they don’t want to approach it? After a short time researching the internet, unfortunately, I didn’t found out anything. I guess I’m hoping too much from the internet. If you found out why, please let me know why :)
