Crochet Project: Butterflies July 16, 2008

Posted by jewel in Crochet, Hobby. 6 comments

Hi hi..after long time not posting anything here *thanks to my laziness ^^;;* Now I’ll post my latest crochet project. I downloaded the pattern from Clover’s site *now where’s the url ^^;;*

Anyway, here they are :D These are two beautiful butterflies :D The pink one is crocheted by me, and the green one is my sister’s. We crocheted it by looking at the pattern from the monitor directly because my printer was broken ^^;; This butterfly is my sister’s second project. I taught her how to crochet *what a nice big sister I am ;-)* Her first one was a cellphone case, but I forgot to take its picture ^^;;

I’m planning to attach this butterfly on a bag/book cover by sewing it. If you have another idea, please let me know ^^

Just like I promised, *drum roll* here are my crochet projects :D Finally I’m able to transfer these pics from my cellphone to my computer. I was so lazy to reinstall the software after my computer crashed. So this afternoon, I installed the software on my office computer and transferred these pics ^^;; To view a bigger version, please click this url: My crochet projects

My Canvas Crochet Wallet

Here’s the wallet that is made with canvas crochet technique. I was attending a crochet group meeting when Mba Swat showed this technique and taught us. We buy the nylon yarn and canvas needed for this project. 3 days later I finished the project. But I’m just too lazy to upload it. Sorry ^^;; So here it is. I just took the picture today without any preparation just like my previous photos of crocheted dolls *I even made up a small box studio from a cardboard box and white HVS paper just to make the lighting and the background looks perfect ^^;;*

Baby Shoes
baby shoes - cotton yarn baby shoes - cotton yarn

When I was browsing on rakuten.co.jp, I found this cute baby shoes pattern. It’s perfect to be given to my friend who has a six months old baby girl. First attempt, I made it too small. Ignoring the unfinished shoes, I began to crochet with second yarn. But it also failed ^^;; I guess that’s because I made it using wrong crochet hook and I didn’t bother with the gauge :P So the next time, I used crochet hook number 3 and carefully measured it. And here’s the result. The dimension is 11cm long, 6.5cm wide. This baby shoes is using cotton yarn bought from Mba Sisca. Thanks mba ^^

Trio Jelly Fish

jelly fish - acrylic yarnThis actually not my current project. I made this long time ago. But only have the chance to upload it today. I made this using pattern from Anna’s blog *I forget the url* Look cute aren’t they ? with those curly wurly legs, they’re just adorabe :D

Cellphone Case

cellphone case - cotton yarn When I took this pic, the case wasn’t even finish yet. I finished it two days ago. The pattern I used is the modification of the above baby shoes pattern *see the floral shape part* The rest is just made up by me ^^;; I’m using the yarn I bought from my trip to Bandung last month ^^ Pretty decent I think ^^;;

Comments are welcomed :D

Today I was busy surfing on the internet. Hehe…not a good employee I guess ^^;; I think it’s okay to do sometimes if you really don’t have anything to do *hey..I’ve done all my jobs ;P* So, these surfing and searching activities turned out to be usefull for you guys who love crochet :D I compiled some great links that I found below. Happy surfing :

www.Berroco.com
This website is actually a branded yarn website. They offer lot of free knit & crochet patterns, from handbag, accessories, belt, shawl, purse, amigurumi, scarf, poncho, cap hat, etc.

www.DIYLife.com
This is some kind of heaven for DIY Lovers. You can find many DIY projects to work on :D If you specifically looking for crochet, you can go to this url : http://www.diylife.com/tag/crocheting
If you like Kero-chan from Card Captor Sakura, you can crochet him to life with this pattern : Kero-chan Crochet Pattern

But there’s a catch. All of this pattern is written pattern, not the graphical one ^^;; So if you don’t understand how to read it, good luck in learning it ^^;; I must say the same to myself, as I can’t read it too ^^;;

Pffhh…I’m worn out + WWKIP Day in Jakarta & Bogor June 6, 2008

Today there are many things going on at work. My boss demanded so many things from me to be done at once. Not to mention all those calls from secretaries that need my help. God, I thought this friday was going to be an easy day. Too bad it wasn’t T_T Fortunately, under those things, I still be able to update some of my meant-for-business-blogs ^^ *ooh..you must be if you want to reap a few ugly cents ^^;;*

Okay, what am I going to write now. Let see….oh, member of Mari Merajut mailing list that I subscribe to will hold a gathering. We will do knitting or crocheting in public area to participate in the World Wide Knitting in Public Day event on 14 June 2008. This event will promote knitting and crocheting to public. Hopefully we can attract some people to learn this skills and made them love knitting and crocheting too ^^

Members from Bogor area have already decided to do that in Kebun Raya Bogor. Because I live in Jakarta, of course I prefer to choose nearby location if there’s any ^^ But until now, members from Jakarta haven’t decided the location yet. I hope I can make it so I could ask some patterns that confused me alot =_= Let’s just wait for the decision in the next week.

Craft Book Resources May 29, 2008

It’s quite hard for me to get a nice quality of craft book but with cheap price here in Jakarta. If money is not a problem for you, then you can easily get various craft books at Gramedia, Kinokuniya, Hobby Craft, and other big bookstores. At Kinokuniya, you can even order a specific book if it’s not available in the store. Please be advised that Craft Book that I mention here is Japanese Craft Book.

Recently, I went to Gramedia Matraman, I found out that they just updated their collection of craft books, especially crochet book. I found many new book which I haven’t seen before. As usual, I only read the book quickly, and hope that my old brain will be able to absorb them all ^^;; Gramedia is quite nice now cause they provide some seats for the happy camper like me ^^;;

Other source to get craft book is from Pasar Senen. My sister told me there are many used books and you can bargain the price with the seller. Besides Pasar Senen, you can find used books seller at Pasar Jatinegara too. But the collection is not as many as Pasar Senen though.

Last resouce I knew is online store. But I haven’t tried it myself cause I don’t have a credit card :P At Amazon.com, you can find many many craft books which are written in english. Currently, I only put them on my wish list and wish someday I could buy it ^^;; Other great store is YesAsia.com. This store provides many japanese craft books. Actually you can buy japanese craft books straight from Japanese online store to get cheaper price, but the problem is, they are all in Japanese! So, unless you can speak and read japanese, then YesAsia.com is your saviour ^^;;

Oh, I forgot, there is one more source, that is your friend who lives in Japanese and plan to go back to Jakarta in a short time :D I’ve done it once and it works great :D I gave her the url of the book, she bought it for me and have it send to her place. And when she arrived in Jakarta, we met and she gave me the book :D I paid her in rupiah according to current rate, but I usually give her bigger rate cause she has been so kind to me ^^;; That’s definitely cheaper than other offline stores in Jakarta ^^

That’s all I know. If you know other great places, you’re welcome to share it here :D

Canvas Crochet, done! May 14, 2008

Remember my last post about Kopdar in MKG with new friends from Mari Merajut mailing list? We were learning how to crochet on canvas. Each of us bought a canvas and 3 rolls of nylon yarn. This canvas was already cut into small pieces, and was designed to be a little simple wallet with a zipper on top.  Cause we’re still newbie, we start with simple chain stitch. And last night, after hard work and couple of guessing game in order to make single crochet stitch *i didn’t have any article at all as a reference ^^;;* I finished my little wallet. I bet you must be dying to see it *hehe..kidding* Too bad you can’t see it yet cause I haven’t taken the picture *my camera is broken I think*. So I guess I have to use my camera phone instead *I hate non sharp picture T_T* So, please wait for my next update to see it :D

My Crochet Project : Little coin purse or Wallet? May 6, 2008

Posted by jewel in Crochet, Hobby. 1 comment so far

I’ve started to begin another crochet project since 2 days ago. I started to make a wallet in mind, but as I’m progressing, plus the wrong height of my crochet, it’s more suitable to be made as a coin purse ^^;; In making this project, I don’t follow any pattern nor create my own, just go with the flow. I don’t know what it will be look like though :P I use green acrylic yarn and crochet hook number 2. I should have used thicker yarn, but that’s all I got. My yarn order at Tobucil hasn’t been processed yet although 2 days has passed. This is my first order with them, I wonder whether they have late response like that as normal practice :( So, look forward to my future post, and see if I can nail this project or fail miserably ^^

Crocheted Coral Reef? April 18, 2008

Crocheted Coral Reef

 This afternoon I spent my time browsing the internet, like always ;-) If you like crochet, you must be amazed of what I found cause this project is so amazing. It combines Math, Art, and Skills all together. How cool is that! What I’m talking about is the Crocheted Coral Reef project, which was exhibited by Institute for Figuring (IFF). They actually put the brief instruction of how to make it, but since I’m a beginner and I can only read japanese pattern, I can’t figure it out T__T Please please teach me how to make it. IFF said that it’s actually a traditional technique which is called “increases”. I know how to do increase, but I need to know the exact pattern so I won’t mess it up ^^;; Oh, one more thing, they also inform that this coral reef project works best if you use cheap acrylic yarn.What a great relief since I use that type of yarn most all the time*poor me* For more info and images about this project, you can go to their website (IFF - Crocheted Coral Reef).

My hobby: Making Crocheted Dolls (Amigurumi) March 24, 2008

Egg dollI got hooked with crochet since I bought an Amigurumi book in Japan with the help of my friend, Kus. Although the book is written in Japanese, it didn’t withdraw me from learning it by myself. Please note that I can’t speak Japanese ^^;; After some unsuccessful tries and pain on my middle fingers, I managed to crochet some dolls. Some of my first attempt dolls can be looked at my photo gallery in flickr. So far, I have crocheted some egg dolls, jelly fish, little basket, elephant, clouds, frog, little balls, flowers, and the last one is a little mouse. I can only read Japanese style crochet pattern until now because they are easier to follow compare to American style.

Here’s the list of my online source of pattern :
Rakuten.co.jp
Clover.co.jp

If you have the same passion to crochet, please inform newbie like me where you get your free pattern, especially Japanese style crochet pattern. Thanks ^^
