Investing Our Money June 27, 2008
Posted by jewel in Business, Money. add a commentIn time when inflation rate has rising high over the increase rate of our income, we have to look for other way to keep up with it. Saving your money at the bank? It sure does safe, but the interest rate is lower than the inflation rate. I’m sure we don’t want our money wasted just to pay the bank administration charge. So what should we do? Investment is the answer. We have to invest our money to investment instruments available on the market. The question is, do we have the knowledge to do it? As commoner, we have little knowledge in this field. That’s why we need Investment Advisor like George Divel to help us determining how we’re going to invest our money. He has 10 years of experience in this field, so we can be sure that we’re in the right hand.
Online Handcrafted Product Shop June 13, 2008
Posted by jewel in Business, Hobby, Internet. comments closedI’ve been thinking to open my own online shop. But there seems so much things that hold me back. First, I still can’t decide what products to be sold. And when I eventually found it, I need to know where can I get the supplier. Then there’s also shipping and payment method to be considered. And the most important thing, how will I promote my shop. All of these make me stop before I even start ^^;;
Besides selling manufactured products, I also dream about having handcrafted products + craft tools online shop. But to showcase my own creation only, I’m afraid buyer will have limited selection to choose from. I’m thinking about asking another crafters to sell their creations on my site. They still keep their product, but they sell it through my shop. The problem is, if a buyer buys 3 items from 3 different crafters, he/she will be charged 3x shipping fee T_T If I were the buyer, I will mind that problem :(
So, I come up with a solution. Crafters who want to sell their product through my shop will have to send their product to me. First, they will send me the photo of their product. The product will have to be approved by me before I agree to sell it on my shop. Crafters are to be advised to send their products in bulk to save on shipping fee. From then on, I will take charge of the rest. Maybe I’ll charge some percentage of the price to cover my cost ^^;;
Anybody interested? If I get many respondent, maybe I’ll go along with this plan ^^
Tangan Di Atas (TDA) Community April 10, 2008
Posted by jewel in Business, Personal. add a commentI’ve joined TDA Community for almost 2 years *I guess*. This community is a place where people who run their own business could share knowledge and support each other. So basically, if you currently don’t have any business and just working for a company, you are encouraged to have your own business. Eventually, when your business has established, you can quit your job and run your business full time.
Talking about having my own business, I actually do have some, although all of them are considered in hibernate mode ^^;; I don’t have a confident to call them “business” because the scale is very small, not to mention the profit. What kind of business am I running? Right now, I’m making girls accessories made of felt and yarns. My sales person is my sister’s high school student :) I once had an order to make a promotional tote bag for a company. The profit was quite a lot. Too bad I didn’t do serious things to promote my business. Well…that’s a little about my hibernated business. I’ll continue later :)
Too many ideas, but not one being done properly March 13, 2008
Posted by jewel in Business, Money, Personal. add a commentFor the last one year, I’ve been engaged actively in finding information about how to run your own business. I joined a business mailing list to see if I can find another business idea to enrich mine. At first, I was very enthusiastic to follow the news and had so many ideas in my mind that I wanted to pursue. So far, here’s the list of what I’ve tried:
- Selling shaved cone ice cream. I did have some plan about how to sell it and how to make the ice cream, but somehow, I didn’t follow it up. So, it ended up somewhere in my computer.
- Selling pempek in my office. Result: only 1 batch of order. I did have my “modal” back with a little profit. But I stopped selling it cause I wasn’t quite comfortable in selling food in my office. I always think that I wasn’t the kind that will be success in selling something directly. Why? I don’t know. Maybe I just need some more courage. So, there goes my career in selling pempek.
- Selling muslimah outfit. Only once though ^^;; One day, I wore my new outfit to office. My friend was interested in it and want to buy it. I told her I could help her to buy it. So, that’s it. I bought the outfit at the same place, gained a little profit from it to cover transportation expense, and sold it to my friend. She still wanted another outfit, but I haven’t had the time to search it. So, until now, I haven’t processed her order.
- Selling martabak har (well known food in Palembang). My family have tried to sell it in Bekasi using consignation method. But it didn’t work well, the location of the food stall wasn’t very good. I spotted a good location at Otista street, but until now, I haven’t had the nerve to ask the owner.
- Publishing an agenda for daily muslim activity. This one is still an on going process. I’ve reach 75% of it. But until now, I stopped working cause my computer crashed and I don’t have the software installer. And I also lost the momentum of Islamic New Year this year T_T What a pain.
There are other plenty of ideas that I didn’t mention here. Although I never had a loss, but the profit I got wasn’t significant. I think my problems are :
- I had so many ideas that I didn’t have time to focus on one.
- I don’t have a gut to try selling things to friends or people I know. There’s some kind of uneasy feeling in me. So I guess I still have to found out how to get rid of this uneasy feeling.
Last but not least, I’m proud that I have tried. There are still some actions that I’ve done.
Borrowing a phrase from a friend in my mailing list: “No action, nothing happen. Take Action, miracle happen”. I can’t wait to see when that miracle happen to my business life ;D
