Craft Book Resources May 29, 2008

It’s quite hard for me to get a nice quality of craft book but with cheap price here in Jakarta. If money is not a problem for you, then you can easily get various craft books at Gramedia, Kinokuniya, Hobby Craft, and other big bookstores. At Kinokuniya, you can even order a specific book if it’s not available in the store. Please be advised that Craft Book that I mention here is Japanese Craft Book.

Recently, I went to Gramedia Matraman, I found out that they just updated their collection of craft books, especially crochet book. I found many new book which I haven’t seen before. As usual, I only read the book quickly, and hope that my old brain will be able to absorb them all ^^;; Gramedia is quite nice now cause they provide some seats for the happy camper like me ^^;;

Other source to get craft book is from Pasar Senen. My sister told me there are many used books and you can bargain the price with the seller. Besides Pasar Senen, you can find used books seller at Pasar Jatinegara too. But the collection is not as many as Pasar Senen though.

Last resouce I knew is online store. But I haven’t tried it myself cause I don’t have a credit card :P At Amazon.com, you can find many many craft books which are written in english. Currently, I only put them on my wish list and wish someday I could buy it ^^;; Other great store is YesAsia.com. This store provides many japanese craft books. Actually you can buy japanese craft books straight from Japanese online store to get cheaper price, but the problem is, they are all in Japanese! So, unless you can speak and read japanese, then YesAsia.com is your saviour ^^;;

Oh, I forgot, there is one more source, that is your friend who lives in Japanese and plan to go back to Jakarta in a short time :D I’ve done it once and it works great :D I gave her the url of the book, she bought it for me and have it send to her place. And when she arrived in Jakarta, we met and she gave me the book :D I paid her in rupiah according to current rate, but I usually give her bigger rate cause she has been so kind to me ^^;; That’s definitely cheaper than other offline stores in Jakarta ^^

That’s all I know. If you know other great places, you’re welcome to share it here :D

Commenting and how to make use of it

One of my habit is to comment on anything, whether it’s person appearance, website, advertisement, and much more :D My mother used to remind me to stop if I start to comment on a person appearance ^^;; Gladly I’m over it now. But this unique skill of mine actually can be rewarded. Recently, I’m interested in a program which you can get paid to comment on something. No, I’m not kidding. It’s true. You could make money from it. How’s so? It’s easy. A blog is all you need. Just register yourself, submit your blog, and start commenting on something. I’m trying my luck at Bloggerwave now. If you interested, come over and try it yourself ;-)

Bandung, Here I Come May 21, 2008

Last Monday, I had mini outing with my team member. Our destination is Bandung, the city known as Paris van Java. Because we’re all women, it’s not hard to guess what’s on our itinerary list ^^;; Yup, factory outlet! Too bad my budget was tight, so I kept   in mind not to buy anything ^^;; But I could live with that, cause I’m not really into fashion :P Instead of buying clothes, I already planned to spend my money on craft material. After researching on the internet, I decided that I’ll go to Tobucil or Crayon Craft at Jalan Aceh. Accompanied by my friends, we’re driving around the area, but sadly we couldn’t find Tobucil :( Is it really on Jalan Aceh No. 56 ? My friend said that the building numbering in Bandung is random. What? Is that true? Luckily we still found Crayon Craft. I bought some rolls of yarn there and plastic mesh that was already cut into a tote bag *until today I haven’t touch it yet ^^;;* I still prefer to buy it from Tobucil though, cause the yarn price is cheaper than Crayon Craft. I hope I could find Tobucil location the next time I visit Bandung. The great thing from Crayon Craft is there are lot of free craft related courses. I envy you guys who live in Bandung T_T I hope there’s a craft store like that in Jakarta too T_T

Oh, other places that we visited were Primarasa *or Primasari? I forgot ^^;;* at Jl. Kamuning, Rumah Mode at Jl. Setiabudi, Heritage at Jl. Riau, Kabayan Restaurant, Bakso Enggal, and Batagor Riri ^^

Canvas Crochet, done! May 14, 2008

Remember my last post about Kopdar in MKG with new friends from Mari Merajut mailing list? We were learning how to crochet on canvas. Each of us bought a canvas and 3 rolls of nylon yarn. This canvas was already cut into small pieces, and was designed to be a little simple wallet with a zipper on top.  Cause we’re still newbie, we start with simple chain stitch. And last night, after hard work and couple of guessing game in order to make single crochet stitch *i didn’t have any article at all as a reference ^^;;* I finished my little wallet. I bet you must be dying to see it *hehe..kidding* Too bad you can’t see it yet cause I haven’t taken the picture *my camera is broken I think*. So I guess I have to use my camera phone instead *I hate non sharp picture T_T* So, please wait for my next update to see it :D

Sunday noon at MKG May 12, 2008

Last Sunday, I had two missions at Mall Kelapa Gading (MKG). First, to meet my new online friend from Mari Merajut Mailing List. Second, to buy a new pair of shoes to replace my old one. My first mission has been done successfully :D I met 5 new friends there who gave me lot of new knowledge about crochet. Two of them also sold crochet hook and yarns. I bought 2 new crochet hooks and quite a lot yarns. I don’t know what I’ll be making of them, I’ll think about it later ^^;; I also learned to crochet on canvas. Swat taught us how to do it, and we’re lucky to be able to try it first hand cause she brought extra canvas and nylon yarns for us. It’s quite hard at first, maybe because I’m still new at it, but I’m sure I’ll be able to master it soon *hohoho…I hope ^^;;* We chatted & learned from each other for about 2.5 hours. Time passed very quickly when you enjoy what you’re doing ^^

But that didn’t happen to my second mission. I failed miserably to found a new pair of shoes that match my taste and of course my budget T_T I found couple of shoes that I love, but they didn’t meet my budget. And once that I found the one that I like and met my budget, my size wasn’t available T_T *darn it* I spent about 4 hours strolling around MKG. Instead of finding my new pair of shoes, I found a pair that match my sister’s request *she also need to buy a new one*. After buying my sister’s shoes, I kept looking for mine, but still no result. I’ll try again this Tuesday. I hope this time I’ll found it.

American Idol and Slam Dunk *not related though* May 8, 2008

I was watching American Idol last night. For this season, I’m not really into it cause I’ve been busy watching Slam Dunk on Animax which ended its final episode yesterday. That anime is my favorite and I think it’s the best sport anime ever! Although Sakuragi Hanamichi is the naughty one, he is still my favourite character in that anime :D *Go Sakuragi* To watch this anime, I need to compete with my mother first to get the remote control ^^;; But usually it’s always me who win ^^;; *yay for me*

Back to American Idol, the contestants who still manage to survive is David Cook, David Archuletta, Syesha *I don’t know the spelling*, and the boy with reggae singer hair *I don’t know his name ^^;;* In my prediction, the one who will come out as the winner of American Idol this season is David Archuletta. I don’t know why, that’s just my feeling. But my own favorite is David Cook. He sings really great, and he can play music instrument too. Syesha is also a good singer. But the one that make me wonder is the boy with reggae hair. Every time I watch him sing, his song is always plain, just plain. It’s not bad, but it’s not good enough to make you stand out from the rest. But miraculously, he managed to survive till today. Wow…I don’t know what make people vote for him ^^;; It doesn’t seem unfair to other contestant who’s better than him. I hope what Simon said last night will come true *Simon said that he must pack his bag ^^;;* And it all depends on what American voted last night. Let’s just wait and see.

My Crochet Project : Little coin purse or Wallet? May 6, 2008

I’ve started to begin another crochet project since 2 days ago. I started to make a wallet in mind, but as I’m progressing, plus the wrong height of my crochet, it’s more suitable to be made as a coin purse ^^;; In making this project, I don’t follow any pattern nor create my own, just go with the flow. I don’t know what it will be look like though :P I use green acrylic yarn and crochet hook number 2. I should have used thicker yarn, but that’s all I got. My yarn order at Tobucil hasn’t been processed yet although 2 days has passed. This is my first order with them, I wonder whether they have late response like that as normal practice :( So, look forward to my future post, and see if I can nail this project or fail miserably ^^

Over excited over Rp 1000 May 5, 2008

Last night I cooked instant noodle for my father. The brand that I cooked has a lottery program going on. When I pulled out the seasoning bag, I found a little coupon attached to it. Wow..it meant that I was just winning a prize! The coupon size was really small, and I could only see image of cars, motorcycle, tv, and a dvd player on it. Omg…the least I could won was a DVD player. Omg…omg XD I quickly informed my sisters and my parent. We all sat together and I started to scratch the coupon. At first glimpse, I could see Rp 1000 written on it. I still hoped that it could be Rp 1.000.000. So I continued to scratch the rest of it. Guess what….there’s nothing more. Yes, I only won that Rp 1000 T_T Damn it. I had my hope held up high just to be crushed like that T_T It was really a big surprise, too bad it’s not a happy surprise :P Next time I win a coupon like that, I’ll make sure not being over excited like I did before :P
