Mass Marriage Ceremony March 31, 2008

Posted by jewel in Personal. add a comment

Last Saturday, Mass Marriage Ceremony was held at Masjid Baitul Hakim near my house. This mass marriage was held to help financially challenged couple to registered their marriage at KUA. Hence their marriage will be acknowledged by nation law. This marriage was one of mosque’s programs in order to celebrate the birth of prophet Muhammad SAW. I was asked to read the translation of some verses in Al-Qur’an which is related to marriage. Because I have some experience before, I wasn’t feeling nervous when I read it. Thank god my job was done nicely ^^ Seeing those happy newly wedds, I hope I can meet my soulmate soon ^^

Little Turtle, Please Don’t Die

Posted by jewel in Personal. add a comment

When my father bought a little turtle for Kiki, my cute 5 years old nephew , he named it “Kura-kura Ninja” We just smile when we heard it :) At first, Kiki still played with Kura-kura Ninja, but then, he got bored quickly with it, leaving the care of Kura-kura Ninja to our family. I pity this little turtle, so I decided to take care of him. Feeding & cleaning his cage everyday made me love him gradually. One morning, we found him upside down and not moving a single muscle. I tried to shake his cage for a minute, but still no reaction. Finally, we came to a conclusion that Kura-kura Ninja has died :( I was a little confused because I thought turtle is a long-live animal. For the last time, I wanted to clean him. I took him out of his cage and started to shower him. Then I saw him moved a little and started to wave his arms and legs. Omg, he’s alive :D Maybe he was just sleeping when we thought he was dead. Oh you naughty little turtle, no more surprise please ;)

My hobby: Making Crocheted Dolls (Amigurumi) March 24, 2008

Egg dollI got hooked with crochet since I bought an Amigurumi book in Japan with the help of my friend, Kus. Although the book is written in Japanese, it didn’t withdraw me from learning it by myself. Please note that I can’t speak Japanese ^^;; After some unsuccessful tries and pain on my middle fingers, I managed to crochet some dolls. Some of my first attempt dolls can be looked at my photo gallery in flickr. So far, I have crocheted some egg dolls, jelly fish, little basket, elephant, clouds, frog, little balls, flowers, and the last one is a little mouse. I can only read Japanese style crochet pattern until now because they are easier to follow compare to American style.

Here’s the list of my online source of pattern :
Rakuten.co.jp
Clover.co.jp

If you have the same passion to crochet, please inform newbie like me where you get your free pattern, especially Japanese style crochet pattern. Thanks ^^

Teaching Children

Posted by jewel in Personal. add a comment

Teaching is not a new world for me. 2 of my sisters have taught children who live near our house for years for free. Most of  the children come from a low class family. They started teaching since they were still in university. Sometimes I helped too, but the frequency is not too often.

But for the past 3 weeks, I continuously teaching 2 first graders + 1 kinder garden, 2 boys and a girl. The boys are my nephew and the girl is their neighbor. I teach them Math, and if they look tired, I allowed them to do some painting and coloring for a couple of minutes, just to recharge their spirit ;-) I hope I can help them improving their grade at school :-)

Making Money from Internet March 18, 2008

Posted by jewel in Internet, Money. 1 comment so far

Since July 2007, I’ve started to make money from the internet. I’ve joined Google Adsense and Amazon Associate Program. I should have tried it since 2003, but the thought of internet scam made me ignore it. So, how’s the result? Not really good actually to make me quit from my real job ;-) After joining for about 8 months, I’ve only managed to get $126 from Google Adsense and $145 from Amazon Associate. If only I have internet connection at home, I think my result will be much better than that ;-)

Other thing that I want is selling stuffs on the internet. My plan is to sell handcrafted stuffs which is unique and can be customized. Of course, before the online store could be opened, I need to have somethings to sell :D Currently, I’ve made some crocheted dolls in the forms of cellphone key chain. My sister promised me to sell some of her felt dolls too. Hopefully this store will run at the end of March.

Have you got any other idea on how to make money from the internet? Please share :-)

Check your pagerank, socialmeter, and cool trick March 13, 2008

Here’s a link I found out that you can use to check your pagerank. If you already installed Google Toolbar, you know you didn’t need this tool ;)
Check Pagerank

And for this one, this tool can check your socialmeter. Try it.
Check Socialmeter

This cool trick is kinda pointless, but it can amuse you for a while :D
Here’s how:
Copy & Paste this code below to your url bar. And you will see that all of the images in the previous page you open will start swirling around. Cool, eh?

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200;DI=document.images; DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i++){DIS=DI[ i ].style;DIS.position=’absolute’; DIS.left=Math.sin (R*x1+i*x2+x3)*x4+x5;DIS.top=Math.cos(R*y1+i*y2+y3)*y4+y5}R++}setInterval(’A()’,5); void(0);

Too many ideas, but not one being done properly

For the last one year, I’ve been engaged actively in finding information about how to run your own business. I joined a business mailing list to see if I can find another business idea to enrich mine. At first, I was very enthusiastic to follow the news and had so many ideas in my mind that I wanted to pursue. So far, here’s the list of what I’ve tried:

  1. Selling shaved cone ice cream. I did have some plan about how to sell it and how to make the ice cream, but somehow, I didn’t follow it up. So, it ended up somewhere in my computer.
  2. Selling pempek in my office. Result: only 1 batch of order. I did have my “modal” back with a little profit. But I stopped selling it cause I wasn’t quite comfortable in selling food in my office. I always think that I wasn’t the kind that will be success in selling something directly. Why? I don’t know. Maybe I just need some more courage. So, there goes my career in selling pempek.
  3. Selling muslimah outfit. Only once though ^^;; One day, I wore my new outfit to office. My friend was interested in it and want to buy it. I told her I could help her to buy it. So, that’s it. I bought the outfit at the same place, gained a little profit from it to cover transportation expense, and sold it to my friend. She still wanted another outfit, but I haven’t had the time to search it. So, until now, I haven’t processed her order.
  4. Selling martabak har (well known food in Palembang). My family have tried to sell it in Bekasi using consignation method. But it didn’t work well, the location of the food stall wasn’t very good. I spotted a good location at Otista street, but until now, I haven’t had the nerve to ask the owner.
  5. Publishing an agenda for daily muslim activity. This one is still an on going process. I’ve reach 75% of it. But until now, I stopped working cause my computer crashed and I don’t have the software installer. And I also lost the momentum of Islamic New Year this year T_T  What a pain.

There are other plenty of ideas that I didn’t mention here. Although I never had a loss, but the profit I got wasn’t significant. I think my problems are :

Last but not least, I’m proud that I have tried. There are still some actions that I’ve done.
Borrowing a phrase from a friend in my mailing list: “No action, nothing happen. Take Action, miracle happen”. I can’t wait to see when that miracle happen to my business life ;D
